Orlando Magic are following in the footsteps of the Chicago Bulls by making some qualifying offers to their top free agent. While Jimmy Butler got the max qualifying offer from the Bulls, the Magic are making an offer to their top free agent, Tobias Harris, along with his teammate Kyle O’Quinn making them both restricted free agents.
Following from an official Magic Press Release.
The Orlando Magic have extended a qualifying offer to forward Tobias Harris, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.
By extending a qualifying offer to Harris prior to the June 30 deadline, Orlando owns the right to match any offer sheet he may sign with another team. Harris will become a restricted free agent on July 1.
The Orlando Magic have extended a qualifying offer to forward/center Kyle O’Quinn, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.
By extending a qualifying offer to O’Quinn prior to the June 30 deadline, Orlando owns the right to match any offer sheet he may sign with another team. O’Quinn will become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Harris has a lot of suitors in this summer with the New York Knicks being the most talked about destination for him. He’s from New York and he’s talked about playing there and winning a championship. The thing is, where would he fit? Carmelo Anthony plays the same position that he does so there’s no way the Knicks would give Harris a ton of money to either ride the bench or play third fiddle to Carmelo or any big name free agent they bring in. The Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons are also in play for Harris.
O’Quinn’s market is strange. He has a lot of talent but it hasn’t been showcased due to the lack of playing time he’s had during his time with the Magic. He’s been buried on the depth chart for the last few years behind Nikola Vucevic, Channing Frye, Aaron Gordon and Dewayne Dedmon. O’Quinn has some talent and a team might swipe him up if they strike out on the bigger name free agents.
