One thing that many of us can agree on, no matter our favorite genre of music, is that music is a powerful tool that can convey anything that is in our minds or weighing on our hearts. No matter the artist, that is one common denominator between them all. For some, the message is a bit stronger than others. In the case of Hip-Hop, Macklemore finds himself being one of many that can deliver striking messages in his music. This still holds true and is the case in his most recent release, ‘White Privilege II.’ The record serves as a followup to ‘White Privilege,’ that can be found on Macklemore’s solo album, The Language Of My World, which released over 10 years ago in 2005. Conveying even a stronger message than the first, the rappers dives into the world of “Black Lives Matter” and even goes as far as calling out White people who take from Black culture but stay silent on issues that effect the Black community. Despite whatever the general consensus is to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s music, the gentlemen should be applauded for stepping out and doing what so many just may be afraid to do, or aren’t willing to do. With an important message in the song and taken from their upcoming studio album, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, listen to ‘White Privilege II,’ below.
