Arriving at the start of the Labor Day Weekend, Eminem’s surprise album, Kamikaze, has been the talk of Rap circles for the last seventy two hours. Coming complete with features from Joyner Lucas, Royce Da 5’9, Jessie Reyez and more, the album served as a follow up to his last project, Revival, which was not well received by most. Throughout the album’s thirteen tracks, Eminem focused the majority of his energy on responding to critics and doubters. Among those who he addressed were Charlamagne Tha God, Joe Budden, DJ Akademiks and Drake. One of the more odd names that Eminem took time to address were Machine Gun Kelly.
For the most part, Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly have relatively nothing in common other than the fact they are both from the midwest and they are both white. Outside of the obvious, the two have had little in common for the majority of the careers. The two have vastly different styles, exist in different era and have had different paths to success. However, Eminem apparently did not take kindly to a Machine Gun Kelly tweet from back in 2012 when he wrote, “Ok so I just saw a picture of Eminem’s daughter…and i have to say, she’s hot as f*ck, in the most respectful way possible cause Em is king.” Since then, Machine Gun Kelly has mentioned that he was blackballed because of his tweet and banned from Shade 45. He has also sent a few subliminal shots at Eminem in recent years. While Eminem has remained quiet about the matter, he took some time on Kamikaze to rap, “If you wanna come at me with a sub, Machine Gun/And I’m talkin’ to you, but you already know who the f*ck you are, Kelly/I don’t use sublims and sure as f*ck don’t sneak-diss/But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie.”
This weekend, Machine Gun Kelly took time to respond to Eminem in a new track called “Rap Devil”. On the record, Kelly raps, “Let’s call Sway ask why he can’t go up to Shade 45 because of you/Let’s ask Interscope how you had Paul Rosenberg trying to shelf me/Still can’t cover up the fact the last four albums as bad as your selfie/Now tell me what do you stand for?/I know you can’t stand yourself.” Check out the response track in its entirety above.
