Next month, M. Night Shyamalan will bring his latest thriller, Trap, to theaters. Starring Josh Hartnett and Ariel Donoghue, the film follows the story of a “father and daughter who attend a pop concert only to realize they’ve entered the center of a dark and sinister event.” The dark sinister event in question? A police operation to capture a serial killer. As Shyamalan put it, the pitch for the film was kicked off with a bizarre question.
“What if The Silence of the Lambs happened at a Taylor Swift concert?” he told EMPIRE Magazine.
Shyamalan, best known for The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Split and Glass, is especially vocal about this film ahead of its release because he wants the feature film to “move toward more original storytelling.”
“I really do believe in the original movie,” he explained.
“I want the industry to move toward more original storytelling. I think audiences would really like it. Look, I know there’s safety in IP. But it’s really important that we come to the movies and see something we’ve never seen before. I’ll keep fighting for that.”
Trap will arrive in theaters on Friday, August 9.
