Alvin Gentry was the associate head coach on Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors coaching staff for one season until Gentry elected to depart the West Coast, head to the Gulf Coast to become the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.
While Gentry and newly locked up franchise superstar Anthony Davis are in the early ‘honeymoon stage’ between a player and a head coach, the Warriors had to move on from Gentry and his great coaching tactics.
As opposed to going outside of the organization to bring in a big name, it now appears that Kerr has promoted one of his own, a fellow Arizona Wildcats alumni, to take over Gentry’s old position. Other members of Kerr’s staff also have been promoted following Gentry’s departure.

It appears that Ron Adams, a longtime NBA assistant coach, will be staying right there with the Warriors as Walton will be moving up from an assistant coach to associate head coach. Walton and Jarron Collins, who are two former NBA big men, are going to continue to provide coach Kerr a stable and intelligent insight with his current players.
It has yet to be announced if the key part of the Warriors revival in the NBA Finals, Nick U’ren, has been promoted by the team.
