Luis Scola inked a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, adding himself to the long list of recent Nets signees. Brooklyn missed out on restricted free agents Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson after their respective teams matched on the Nets contract offers.
With a ton of money to spend, the Nets had to hand it out somewhere. All of the top free agents are signed and there isn’t a ton of big names left. The Nets have decided to sign a veteran for at least one season to help them build a culture and develop young guys.

Free-agent forward Luis Scola has agreed to a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets, league sources told The Vertical.
Scola, 36, is the fifth free agent with whom the Nets have reached a commitment in July.
Scola could come in and start for the Nets, similar to how the Raptors started him to begin last season. Luis is a veteran and his court presence would definetely help the younger guys. Still, the expected starter should be Trevor Booker, who the Nets also signed this summer, or second year guy Chris McCullough. He’s healthy, young and his game fits the modern NBA.
In nine NBA seasons, Scola has averaged 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds. Last season with the Toronto Raptors, Scola averaged 8.7 points per game.
