
As previously reported by Def Pen, Spike Lee is currently working on a new project called Son of the South. The new Spike Lee drama will follow the story of Bob Zellner, an Alabama native and former KKK member who was pulled in to the Civil Rights movement after being inspired by Dr. King and Rosa Parks. This week, we learned more about who would play the role of Zellner.
As reported by Variety, X-Men‘s Lucas Till will play the role of Bob Zellner. Meanwhile, Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars has been tapped to play the role of Zellner’s girlfriend. Other additions to the cast include Scott Davis, Julia Ormond , Cedric the Entertainer, Sharonne Lanier and Brian Dennehy. Lastly, Chaka Forman has also been given the green light to play the role of his father, Jim Forman.
Lee will work on the film alongside his longtime film partner, Barry Alexander Brown. The two have previously worked on films such as She’s Gotta Have It, Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X and Inside Man. Most recently, the two worked together to win Lee’s first Academy Award for Blackkklansman.
Lee has began shooting the film in Alabama, but no release date has been given yet.
