LSU junior forward Wayde Sims was shot at a Subway restaurant near Southern University early Friday morning. Sims died while being transported to the hospital from the gun wounds he received. Sims was a role player for the Tigers in his first two years but was a local Baton Rouge native. He led his high school to three consecutive state titles in high school. His loss has been felt strongly in the Baton Rouge community already this morning as the news has spread. Sims averaged 5.6 points with 2.9 rebounds in 32 games last season.

Will Wade and other administrators have expressed their sadness and thoughts on the terrible situation. Sims was just a 20-year-old who was expected to continue to contribute off the bench for the Tigers. Will Wade brought in a stellar recruiting class this year that his team entering the year with high expectations. The team should be ranked in most preseason polls after bringing in a top-five recruiting class. LSU will almost assuredly do something to honor their fallen teammate this year.
