
The city of Louisville, Kentucky is in mourning following a mass shooting at Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky on Monday. The deadly shooting has reportedly resulted in the deaths of Joshua Barrick, Thomas Elliot, Juliana Farmer and James Tutt. Nine others, including two police officers, were also injured. Initial reports indicate that one person remains in critical condition while three others have been discharged, according to local hospital reports.
According to the Louisville Police Department, officers arrived at the scene of the shooting within three minutes of the 911 call and found the suspect still firing. Officers did exchange gunfire with the suspect, who died at the scene. However, it is unclear if the suspect’s injuries were self-inflicted.
The suspected shooter, 23-year-old Connor Sturgeon, was reportedly armed with a rifle and was a previous or current employee of the bank.

“This is awful. I have a very close friend that didn’t make it today. And I have another close friend who didn’t, either, and one who is at the hospital that I hope is gonna make it through,” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said at a news conference.

“The safety of Old National Bank employees and everyone we serve in our banking center locations is paramount,” Jim Ryan, the CEO of Old National Bank, mentioned in a statement. “As we await more details, we are deploying employee assistance support and keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at Monday’s press briefing, “Once again, today the president has called on Republicans in Congress to work together with Democrats to take action to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, to require safe storage of firearms, to require background checks for all gun sales, to eliminate gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability.”
There have been at least 15 mass shootings in the U.S. in the first 10 days of April, including Monday morning’s shooting in Louisville, according to the Gun Violence Archive. In less than four months, the U.S. has seen at least 146 mass shootings in 2023. The Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as at least four people shot, not including the suspect.
