Kobe Bryant may be gone but his legacy with the Lakers will continue to shine for a long time. After a legendary performance in his final game before retirement, Bryant’s legacy was fully cemented.
Now, anyone can own a piece of that night with just a whole lot of money. To commemorate Bryant’s final game, the Lakers created two new sections on their home court at STAPLES center, one with the number eight worn by Kobe in the first half of his career and one with the number 24 of the second half.
The Lakers are auctioning off the section of the floor with the number eight, complete with Bryant’s signature. It is a twenty feet by eight feet section of hardwood and the proceeds will benefit the Lakers’ own charity: the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
Since being opened on Wednesday, five people have placed bids on the memorabilia, with the current highest bid placed at $12,100. So, if you have $12,200 lying around, you can place the next bid on owning a piece of basketball history.
The auction will be closed on May 15th, and there is no telling how high the price will be by the time it is over. Fortunately, the proceeds will go to a great cause and one person will walk away with the ultimate piece of memorabilia from the career of Kobe Bryant.
