The Los Angeles Clippers have a clear hole at the small forward position — a hole they cold be looking to fill via trade before the February 18 trade deadline. The Clippers are reportedly looking at Sacramento Kings’ Rudy Gay, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard.
Broussard spoke a bit about the Clippers’ interest in Gay in a video report, saying:
The Clippers, you know, they’re looking for a 3-man. They have interest in Rudy, but they really don’t have enough to get him, so I don’t think he gets moved.
It’s true that the Clippers probably don’t have the assets to acquire Gay if they aren’t going to give up a member of their big 3. J.J. Redick is an intriguing process, but the Kings don’t particularly need him(at least not as much as they need Gay), as they already have Marco Belinelli and Ben McLemore at the 2.
The Clippers would presumably try to give up Lance Stephenson, but I don’t know if the Kings particularly want him. Lance has a… polarizing personality, and it feels like putting him in the same locker room as DeMarcus Cousins would just be a disaster waiting to happen.
The Kings would probably be open to trading Gay, but only if they’re getting very good value back. I wouldn’t say that him being traded is likely.
