Lorenzo Romar started his first three seasons as an NCAA coach at Pepperdine in 1996. He stayed there until the end of the 1998-1999 season, as he left to go coach the Billikens of Saint Louis and Later the Washington Huskies. After a horrific season of 9 wins and 22 losses in the 2016-2017 NCAA season, The University of Washington thought it was best to part ways with Romar.
But…18 years and two teams later, Lorenzo Romar returns as head coach of the Pepperdine University men’s basketball team.

His first year at Pepperdine did not look promising as he only led his team to 6 wins in 27 games. Even though Romar improved remarkably in his next two years, his career did not portray what a school expects from their head coach as he had an overall record of 42 wins and 44 losses. After leaving the Waves, Romar was able to rack up four total conference championships with two different schools.
With an overall record of 6 wins and 26 losses this season under the head coach Marty Wilson, it is clear to see that Pepperdine needed something to change. Pepperdine hopes a familiar face can bring some experience and lead their team to victory.
