There’s no doubt that 20th Century Fox is trying to cash in on the huge box office success of Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Wolverine in ‘Logan’. While they are currently pushing for an Oscar nomination for the movie, they are also looking to expand on the saga and make a spinoff with Wolverine’s daughter Laura aka X-23.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director James Mangold chimed in on the portrayal of X-23 by the talented young actress, Dafne Keen, and the potential for her to be the protagonist in her own film (Via Hollywood Reporter):
“Patty [Jenkins’] success with [Wonder Woman] only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist,” says Mangold. “The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
If Mangold is helming the film, there is no doubt that he will have an interesting spin on the Marvel Comic’s and X-Men character X-23. After being tested in a mutant facility and given the X-23 (Wolverine) DNA, she adopts his powers at a very young age, which would be an interesting spin on the character. ‘Logan’ deserves the critical acclaim that is being marketed and hopefully that will give 20th Century Fox even more of a reason to push this Wolverine Spinoff forward. There’s 2 things I’m sure of now… comic book fans can’t get enough of Batman or Wolverine. More movies please.
