Independence Day weekend is here and everyone is outside enjoying the warm weather. In celebration of the three-day weekend, Lovenoise, NKA Gallery, Slim + Husky’s and Nashville’s Buchanan Street Business & Art District have come together to produce their first live concert series.
Live On Buchanan is set to go down on July 4 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. As always, Slim + Husky’s will provide food, drinks and much more. Meanwhile, Brian Brown, Starlito and Brasslive will take the stage.
Sunday’s event is the first of many outdoor concerts set to take place on Buchanan street in the coming months. On the first Sunday of each month, new artists from around the area will be showcased in the outdoor venue. With this ongoing concert series, Lovenoise, NKA Gallery and Slim + Husky’s hope to highlight Black entrepreneurs, promote Black artists and promote Black venue ownership.
“What I envision, and what hasn’t been consistent in my lifetime, is a ticketed live music venue that’s Black-owned — that’s intentional, that’s, ‘This is all we do, live music.’ Exit/In does Black music, but what if Exit/In was a Black-owned venue? Having that opportunity is something that will push Nashville up a notch, and will spread the experience,” Lovenoise Co-Founder Eric Holt said during a recent interview.
“It’s not here. It used to be here — on Jefferson Street, [before the construction of I-40 in the 1960s]. But we need to bring it back.”
Tickets for the first Live On Buchanan concert series are currently available for $35.
