Zach Zenner at one point during the season was the Lions 4th string running back and in serious danger of being released. Entering the playoffs Zenner is now the team’s number one running back option. Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick have landed on injured reserve while Zenner has proven to be a better option than rookie Dwayne Washington. The 2nd year man from South Dakota State has proven to make the most of his chances.
“That’s always the goal, with whatever opportunities, I’m to make the most of them and do my best,” Zenner said. “It means a lot. It means a lot from the coaching side of it that they’re willing to give me this opportunity, and also it just means a lot for my career as a player just being able to come in here and have able opportunities to show what I can do.”
I recently called Zenner an X-Factor for the Lions as he may need to have a big game to upset the Seahawks in the playoffs. The Lions currently rank 30th in the NFL in rushing yards, a stat Zenner will be looking to change.
