The Detroit Lions have franchise tagged defensive end Ezekiel Ansah for the 2018 season. Ian Rapoport shared the news via Twitter on Thursday.

According to Rapoport, Ansah is set to make over $17 million with the franchise tag.

All the money will be fully guaranteed. The Lions can still work out a long-term extension with Ansah, with July 16 being the deadline for signing a long-term deal. If not, Ansah will continue to play under the franchise tag.
Ansah has been dealing with a few injuries over the past two seasons but has still managed to record 79 tackles and 14 sacks in 27 games. He dealt with ankle, shoulder and back injuries throughout 2017 and rarely participated in full-padded practices. Ansah is confident that he will be healthy for the 2018 season.
Ansah was picked by the Lions with the 5th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft out of BYU. He was able to contribute immediately. Ansah had a breakout year in 2015 with7 tackles that season along with 14.5 sacks, as well as an appearance in the Pro Bowl.
Ansah has been a core part of the Lions pass rush since he came into the league. The Lions missed the playoffs this past year, but not by much. If Ansah can have a healthy year, he could improve the chances of the Lions making a return to the playoffs.
