Mark my words. If the Brooklyn Nets don’t make any trades by the deadline. Don’t expect them to make the Playoffs. And I don’t mean this year. The core of Lopez, Williams and Johnson is clearly not working and if they don’t get rid of them. I can’t see them being a contender in the long-term. And I think Nets head coach Lionel Hollins has the feeling as well. According to New York Post, Hollins thinks that there won’t be any roster changes before the trade deadline.
“Yes, I do,” Hollins said when asked if he thought he would have the same roster after next Thursday’s trade deadline. The Nets, who lost 95-86 to the Grizzlies Tuesday night to head into the break with a 21-31 record, are one game behind the Hornets for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Does Hollins think that the Nets keeping the same roster will get them into the playoffs? “I don’t know,” he said with a smile. “We’re going to find out.” “Well, we’ve got 30 games left, and we’re still in the playoff hunt,” Hollins said. “We need everybody to get rested, we need everybody to get healthy, and see if we can come back and put together a run and make the playoffs.”
That’s the spirit and mentality to have for sure. Problem is that teams under Brooklyn at the moment have a head of steam that the Nets just cannot match at the moment. Detroit is winning games, Charlotte acquired Mo Williams which is a great move, they’re ahead of Brooklyn right now. Boston and Indiana are not far away. Expect a crazy fight for the 7th and 8th seeds in the Eastern Conference.
