It’s official! Lil’ Wayne is back and as beloved as ever. While it’s fair to question if the legend was ever gone in the first place, it’s clear that he still holds the special place in Hip-Hop that many believed he held with his last major release. After an overwhelming amount of support for the release of his most recent album, Wayne has managed to push 480,000 units in his opening week. Thanks to tracks like “Mona Lisa” and “Uproar” it appears that Wayne’s latest project will be among the most successful of the year.
Meanwhile, Logic also had an outstanding opening week. After releasing Bobby Tarantino II earlier this year, Logic came back with his second full length project of 2018. In his first week, the Maryland emcee managed to push a solid 173,472 copies in his first week. At nearly two hundred copies sold, Logic managed to slide in to the number two spot behind the Young Money CEO.
Elsewhere in Louisiana, Kevin Gates released his first project since being released from prison. His new project, Luca Brasi 3, slid in to the top five with an impressive 71,289 copies. At number four on the charts, this marks one of Gates most commercially successful projects ever.
Rounding out the top five, Eminem’s Kamikaze continues to perform well even a month after its release. Going forward, we will see how other projects like Mudboy, The Dime Trap, Beloved and The Lost Tapes do in their first week.
