Lil Uzi Vert, whose music has punk influences, released a few details about a rock album last month. One of the Philadelphia rapper’s biggest influences, Marilyn Manson, spoke out recently in support of his genre-bending music.
While speaking with Zane Lowe in an interview for Beats 1, Marilyn Manson praised Luv is Rage 2 and the rapper’s unique style and authenticity. Manson said when he sees Uzi, “he had this attitude that reminded me of me when I was his age.” Manson admitted that as a white guy originally from Canton, Ohio, Uzi and other new rappers are “from a different lifestyle, but people know real when they see it. And real scars show it. Mental, physical, musical, all of them.”
In a separate interview, Manson talked about Uzi’s rock album and what direction he would like to see him go in.
“He wants to do a rock album next and I would love to see that happen because I think that he could make a new thing,” Manson said during the interview. “Not some rock/rap type of thing, something special and new that I think needs to be created just to fuck the world up more.”
Manson believes Uzi’s music would be best served channeling bands like Bad Brains or Faith No More. The rock star’s influence on Uzi is the reason why he wears grills, why he only follows Manson on Instagram and why he has a custom Marilyn Manson chain that is reportedly worth more than $200,000.
