Lil Nas X Officially Breaks Billboard Record With “Old Town Road”

Lil Nas X breaks Billboard record for longest-running No. 1 song, placing his hit single Old Town Road in uncharted territory.

Old Town Road, assisted by a couple of equally infectious remixes, now reigns as No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for the 17th-week in a row. The record-breaking feat cements Lil Nas X’s place in pop culture history. Previously, Mariah Carey held the record. She and Boyz II Men collaborated on One Sweet Day which set the record in 1996.

Mariah Carey graciously congratulated Lil Nas X via social media, an area both artists navigate well.  Along with a heartfelt caption, Mariah Carey uploaded an image of herself passing a literal torch to Lil Nas X.

Of course, Lil Nas X also used social media to celebrate the historic news. The artist took to Instagram, also sharing the post to Twitter,  where his trolling reigns supreme to thank fans for streaming his song, assisting with breaking the Billboard record.

Lil Nas X also hinted at now focusing on Panini, the lead single from his debut EP 7.  Hopefully, for fans, this means an official video for the sing-song bop.
