On Monday, June 9, 2025, Leon Thomas added a new piece of hardware to his trophy case. The New York native captured the BET Award for Best New Artist moments after taking to the performance stage in front of the likes of Jamie Foxx, Teddy Riley and Babyface among others. As he accepted his first-ever BET Award as a solo artist, the multi-talented entertainer took time to thank God, his family and his team.
“My grandfather always used to tell me, ‘Music is a team sport.’ And I want to thank God first and foremost, the coach of my life,” he told the crowd at Microsoft Theater. “My mother….she went on a bathroom break. She didn’t get to see me win, but I’ll tell you right now. We’ve been in this together my entire life and I wouldn’t be here without you, Mom. I love you so much. I want to thank my team at Easy Money.”
Winning Best New Artist and performing at the BET Awards are actually the second and third major developments in the singer’s career today. Hours before the BET Awards, Leon Thomas announced the Mutts Don’t Heel tour with Ambré. The tour will kick off on October 30, 2025 in Dallas and end on April 19, 2025 in Perth Washington, with more than two dozen shows throughout the fall and spring.
