Lee Daniels is back at it again! With the success of TV series like Star and Empire, Daniels is returning to the big screen with his newest film, PIMP. Daniels newest work centers around a woman pimp named Wednesday who is attempting to survive the perils of her work and get herself and her girlfriend to a better life. The film includes a star-studded cast that places Keke Palmer as Wednesday, Haley Ramm as Wednesday’s girlfriend and DMX as Wednesday’s father. The supporting cast also includes Aunjanue Ellis of The Help, Vanessa Morgan of Finding Carter and Edi Gathegi of Twilight. The film is set to be released later this year and the trailer is officially available.
The film’s lead, Keke Palmer took to Instagram to express her excitement about the film’s release. In a rather lengthy Instagram post, Palmer wrote, “So excited to have had my movie PIMP play at The Tribeca Film Festival and I was so thrilled to have both my parents there to support me ?!! The first feature I ever produced, started with this film at 18 and it’s just now being let out into the world in my 25th year!! Sometimes things take time but art is all about the passion/persistence you have in telling the stories that make you feel something.. especially the stories of humanity that are often left untold or half told. I’m excited for the world to meet Wednesday.”
There is no official release date for the film by Lee Daniels, but keep following Def Pen for more updates to come.
