LeBron James is only 28 points away from passing Michael Jordan for the most points scored in NBA playoff history. The Cavaliers’ star has endured a prosperous postseason career and has Cleveland is on the brink of a third consecutive trip to the NBA Finals. The LeBron versus Michael debate will rage on for for many, many years whether we like it or not. James explained his mentally on the pursuit of Jordan to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“It’s just a personal goal of mine,” James said Thursday before Cavs shootaround before Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals. “It has nothing to do with passing the rings, passing the points, passing MVPs. It’s just my personal goal to keep me motivated — that’s all.” LeBron trails Jordan in MVP awards, regular season points, and championships. The latter being the most critical component in many people’s opinion.
“You guys are going to have the conversations about who is greatest of all time and things of that nature,” James said. “It doesn’t matter to me”…”We go out and just try to be as great as we can be every night. The comparison of always trying to compare people either living or still playing or not playing, I think it’s great for barbershops, but for me I’m just trying to put my mark on the game and leave a legacy behind so I can inspire the next group of kids that want to play the game the right way.”
LeBron is undoubtedly a first ballot Hall of Fame player and will go down as one of, if not the, greatest player of all time. The comparisons to ‘His Airness’ will continue to rain down upon us from every media outlet and Twitter armchair GM. Despite the two players not really being comparable with regards to physicality or play style, people love to debate two of the greatest players of all time.
