LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers may have came up short in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors but that clearly didn’t matter in the Annual ESPY Awards. James came away with the “Best Championship Performance” ESPY Award even though it came with a loss.
Plenty of people even believed he deserved to win NBA Finals MVP. Sure he had a herculean performance throughout the finals but in my opinion if your team doesn’t win, you shouldn’t be winning any individual awards. However, since the ESPY Awards are based off of fan voting it should really come as no surprise that James came away with it as he is arguably the most popular athlete on the planet. Warriors star floor general and marksman Stephen Curry came away with the “Best NBA Player” ESPY Award.
You ask me, those two should have most definitely been switched. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that LeBron is still the best player in the world though his best days are most likely behind him. Either way you can’t always expect the ESPYs to be on the money with their votes since fans decide who wins what. Hopefully this eases LeBron’s pain about not winning Finals MVP and his nightmares will finally stop.
