It is official. The Golden State Warriors have etched their name into history. They are now at 72 wins in a season, equalling the 95-96 Chicago Bulls, with a game in hand and an opportunity to go one better.
It’s safe to say that this is history in the making. It’s a feat that most people thought was untouchable and the Golden State Warriors were at one point on pace to win 78 games.
LeBron James has been looking from afar, and I’m not sure if this is the political view to it, but he’s glad that he’s witnessing history.
“I can say that I actually got to witness some history,” James said following shootaround as the Cavs prepared to play the Atlanta Hawks.
“I remember the ’95-96 team, but I wasn’t watching every game, wasn’t fortunate enough to watch every game,” said James, who lost twice to the Warriors this season. “So, I knew about it. I kind of watched the Bulls from afar but to actually be in the league now while they’re setting this record, have the opportunity to set this record, it would be something I can talk about later in life.”
“I feel like they’ve just played their game. You can’t fault anyone for winning and then say, ‘Oh, they were tired because they lost late.’ You don’t get that opportunity if you don’t win,” he said. “You don’t even get the opportunity to play for a championship if you don’t win. … I don’t think they’re worried about being tired at this point.“
They must have a godly training team if they’re not tired. For their sake, they will need to sweep the first round so they have an opportunity for some rest.
Now it must be interesting being in LeBron’s shoes. Watching all this from the Eastern Conference, wondering if you make the Finals again, how in the hell are the Cavs going to win against this team? Personally I think it’s no contest if the Finals started now.
