After winning his first NBA Championship in the city of Cleveland, LeBron James is prepared to come back and try to repeat greatness in his city. As an unrestricted free agent this offseason, LeBron does have the option to go wherever he chooses, but that would seem ridiculous at this point. After coming back from 3-1 to win the championship and win Finals MVP, LeBron truly showed the world what greatness he has to offer.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, LeBron James has informed the Cavaliers he will re-sign with them,:
LeBron James has informed the Cleveland Cavaliers he will re-sign with the reigning NBA champions this summer but still has no timetable for negotiating or signing a deal, sources told ESPN.
James is one of several members of the Cavs from last season’s championship team who remain unsigned, including J.R. Smith and head coach Tyronn Lue.
With LeBron James informing the Cavs he will re-sign, J.R Smith and Lue are sure to be next on the Cavs list. Although LeBron has informed them he will re-sign he seems a little undecided on what type of contract he will sign, because he has multiple options. He has the option to sign another 2-year deal that would include a player option after the first year, in order to get more money because of the salary cap rise and get the freedom he deserves. The other option is to sign a max or multi-year deal that would get him up to $30 million a year and make him the most paid player in the NBA. Per Windhorst:
Under league rules, James has several contract choices. He can sign for up to $27.5 million next season on a one-year deal — as he has done the past two summers — or sign a multiyear deal that could make him the league’s highest-paid player at $30.8 million for next season.
LeBron James, the choice is yours.
