The NBA is back and LeBron James is dropping triple-doubles again. For all of those (including me) who thought The King would be coasting through the regular season again, he may be giving us a show.
In front of a raucous crowd at the Cavs’ ring ceremony, LeBron posted his first triple-double of the season. The forward exploded for 19 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds while playing only 32 minutes. Using his monstrous effort, the Cavs blew out the New York Knicks 117-88.
The MVP race seems to be more wide-open than ever this season. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant may take votes away from each other. Same goes for Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Russell Westbrook and James Harden probably won’t have good enough teams to win.
James wasn’t considered as a top MVP candidate by many simply due to his desire to rest and coast through the season. But so far, it seems like he’s coming out guns blazing as exemplified by his opening night performance. It could just be a case of an adrenaline rush from the festivities preceding the game, or it could be a sign of more things to come.
Perhaps LeBron James can win his fifth MVP trophy after all.
