It seems LeBron James can do it all. That includes being the point guard of his team. But with a talent like Kyrie Irving at the point, I’m not surprised that LeBron is going to hand the keys over to Kyrie.
In a piece by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, LeBron talks about his role in the Cavs offense. Bigging up Kyrie in the process.
“I’ll probably handle the ball a little bit, but this is Kyrie [Irving’s] show,” James said Saturday following the team’s first practice of training camp. “He’s our point guard. He’s our floor general, and we need him to put us in position to succeed offensively. He has to demand that and command that from us with him handling the ball.“
“I’ll be ready to shoot every single time,” Irving said with a laugh when asked about James playing point guard. “If I’m off the ball, I’m ready to shoot. Whatever it takes. Whatever it takes to win. Obviously he’s the greatest player playing the game right now, so if he’s on the ball, like I said, I’ll be ready to shoot. But if I’m on the ball, my job is to get everybody involved and make plays.“
Personally, I prefer to have LeBron running the offense. I don’t like the fact Kyrie can’t average 8+ assists per game. He’s an attacking guard first and that’s obvious. If you give him the keys. He’ll look like a fish out of water most of the time. LeBron is the best in the game for a reason.
