Many people are irate over the death of Eric Garner. Video tape of the incident has surfaced, which clearly shows a man being investigated for a crime that turned violent. The New York police officers took Eric Garner down and one police officer applies a choke hold to try to subdue Garner. In the video it clearly shows Eric Garner grasping for air and saying numerous times “I can’t breath”. Later Garner was pronounced dead at the scene. The grand jury decided not to indict the police officer that applied the choke hold that resulted in the death of Eric Garner. Everyone is outraged over the grand juries decision.
Numerous movie stars, artists, entertainers and athletes have expressed thier support for Eric Garners family and the cause. Now NBA superstar players are speaking out in many different ways. First it was Derrick Rose during warm-ups for a Chicago Bulls game, who wore a black t-shirt with white writing spelling out “I can’t breath”. Now the face of the NBA, Lebron James, is speaking out. Lebron says
“I’m pretty upset that I’m not protesting right now with the rest of the guys out there in New York,” James said. “I think it’s something that’s very alarming in our country as far as that’s concerned. We have to be more conscientious of what the law enforcement’s job is, and that’s to protect and serve,”.
Last night, King James was in attendance when the Portland Trail Blazers took on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. When asked about the shirt, LeBron said,
“It was spectacular,” James told the New York Daily News. “I loved it. I’m looking for one.”
Well, King James found one and tonight in Brooklyn the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Brooklyn Nets. LeBron plans to wear the t-shirt for his support of Eric Garner as Derrick Rose has already done. Only difference is the NBA is the second most popular sport in the country and LeBron James is the best player in the NBA. To add a little more intrigue, tonight it the Barclays Center there will be special guests. The royal family will be in attendance in the form of Prince William and Kate Middleton for the showcase.
