It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…Lebron James! Yes, it’s Lebron James, strange visitor from another planet, who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men, and last night he proved just that.
James was phenomenal once again, putting an enormous, historic load on his shoulders and willing what he’s coined the “grit squad” to a second consecutive victory, despite a thinned-out, seven-man rotation. He’s now averaging 41 points, 12 rebounds, and 8.3 assists through three games of the series, the most prolific start to an NBA Finals ever. James’s 40-point effort followed 44-point and 39-point efforts in Games 1 and 2.
With 123 points in the series, James has eclipsed Rick Barry’s 1967 output (122 points) for the most points ever in the first three games of an NBA Finals.
The Cleveland Cavaliers now have their first NBA Finals victory at home ever after getting swept back in the 2007 NBA Finals against the Spurs. They now hold a 2-1 series lead over the Golden State Warriors, and a terrific opportunity to bring the city its first championship since 1964.
Lebron and the Cleveland Cavaliers are now two wins away from delivering one of the greatest upsets in NBA Finals history in my eyes, and the odds are still very much in Golden State’s favor. However, LeBron, a once-in-a-generation type of talent, gives the Cavs something very few players can provide; a chance.
You know how older NBA fans say “Oh Yeah! I remember when MJ was playing, you should have seen him. There was just no one else like him.” Well, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing with LeBron in 15 years. Because if Lebron wins this series, this will potentially be the best finals performance of all time.
