There has been a lot of talk about Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love saying that he and teammate LeBron James are not best friends. LeBron James spoke on this recently, saying that people should not worry about this best friends thing, and that he only has ‘three very good friends’ the entire league, and none of them play for the Cavaliers anyways. LeBron said the following to Cleveland.com’s Joe Verdon,
“People get so infatuated with the best of friends, things of that nature,” James said. “First of all, I’ve got three very good friends in this league, and that’s Carmelo (Anthony), and that’s C.P. (Chris Paul), and that’s D-Wade (Dwyane Wade). And after that I have a bunch of teammates. I have guys I ride for every day.
“But Kyrie is a guy I understand how important he is to this team, how important he is. And the same with Kev as well.”
LeBron clearly thinks that the best friends talk that has surrounded the Cavaliers as of late means nothing. It is just being overly dramatized by the media, as Kendrick Perkins stated earlier. James is good friends with the players on his team, but he isn’t best friends with any of them. LeBron has his ‘very good friends’ (Wade, CP3 and ‘Melo) and under those guys are his teammates.
He might not be too tight with guys like Kyrie and Love but they still are his teammates and share a special bond of chasing a championship together. Do you really need to be that tight with anyone in the NBA to win? You all should be able to work together because at the end of the day, it’s a job. Just because guys aren’t great friends doesn’t mean that they can’t win in this league, they just have to be great teammates and see the end goal. LeBron knows that his team has the talent to win it all, and they don’t need to be paling around all the time to achieve the ultimate goal, an NBA Championship.
