The preseason is funny. We only care about certain results. So if a Rookie shows constant improvement, we take it in. But if a team loses and they’re supposed to be a contender, people just go “calm down its preseason”. So what is the preseason for? We have to have some takeaways from preseason otherwise why have it?
But saying that, the Cavs are an outlier, because LeBron James treated the first half of the 2014-15 season as if it was still preseason. I still can’t get over how he took a break Mid-season! And then just walked into the Playoffs 1st in the East. Is that why he’s favourite to win next year’s MVP? Because the fact that he’s getting some treatment to his back isn’t making me confident.
LeBron James received an injection in his back this week, according to multiple sources, and is unlikely to play again in the preseason. James received a similar anti-inflammatory shot in January when he was shut down for two weeks and responded so well that the plan was always for him to have another one at some point, one league source said. By doing it now, James won’t miss any significant time.
This is perfect timing granted, but believe it when I say, this is the beginning of the super slow decline of LeBron James. He’s getting less minutes, he’s forgoing preseason, the battle against father time is on. Ding ding! Round 1.
