Talk about a perfect scenario for a guy who has played over 18 seasons in the NBA and is the all-time leader in 3 pointers made. He’s living in Miami, enjoying his time off with his family and just being the typical retired person in Florida. There is one difference between Ray Allen and the usual retired folks in Florida.
He gets very high-profiled visitors.
When LeBron James took to Miami recently to rehab some injuries of his, the whole time down there wasn’t exactly dedicated on his rehab.
According to reports the King spent some time talking to his old Miami Heat teammate, ‘Jesus Shuttlesworth’, about a return.
The following from Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com.
During James’ Miami jaunt, the four-time MVP met with free agent guard and former Miami Heat teammate Ray Allen in order to try and appeal to the league’s all-time leader in 3-pointers again about joining the Cavs this season, multiple sources told ESPN.com…
Apart from James’ face-to-face meeting with Allen, several other members of the Cavs have kept in contact with the shooting guard this season — James Jones and Mike Miller, who were also Allen’s teammates in Miami, as well as associate head coach Tyronn Lue, who was an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics when Allen played there.
Bringing Ray back into the fold in Cleveland, might not be the easiest of tasks to sell him on. It was a lot easier to get Ray to come to Miami.
It’s Miami. Now, trying to sell a guy to come to Cleveland is a little bit harder. It’s Cleveland, as Joakim Noah famously expressed.
You want a guy, who’s enjoying his time off as a retired player, to go to Cleveland in the middle of the winter? Good luck. Good thing Ray has also drawn interest from the Los Angeles Clippers, the exciting Western Conference leading Golden State Warriors and also the defending champion San Antonio Spurs.
The one thing that does work in Cleveland’s favor is the fact that if Allen does want to win a championship, joining an Eastern Conference team might be his best bet to make it to the finals. That team could be the Cavaliers, but it also could be the Washington Wizards and joining his old friend, Paul Pierce.
Good Luck, Ray.
