This is why I’m such a fan of LeBron James. Not only is he the best player in the game. He is also one of the best voices for the league. If there’s something dominating the news. LeBron lends his voice. As an ambassador for the game of basketball. You can hate on his game, but you can’t hate on his ethics and his leadership.
As race relations sweep American news. Where black people are protesting all around the country. Putting their hands up, shouting “I can’t breathe!” at Times Square. It’s a talking point that can’t be batted away anymore.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin covered LeBron James and his thoughts on race relations.
“It’s the same statement I made before,” James said after the Cavaliers finished shootaround Thursday in advance of their game against the New York Knicks. “It’s a sensitive subject right now. Violence is not the answer and retaliation isn’t the solution. As a society we just have to do better. I pray for the families of the lost ones.
“Obviously anytime you lose someone, it’s a downer for the whole family, and I’m not going to get too far involved in the logistics of the things because I’m not a part of it, but you pray for the families.”
“It doesn’t matter if you’re an athlete or not,” James said. “If you feel passionate about it or it hits home to you, you have the right to speak up on it. That’s why we have freedom of speech. For me, I’ve never shied away from something that I feel for — for people, for families that I feel for. And that’s just who I am. But I don’t think we should add pressure to anybody, first of all, that doesn’t have enough knowledge about it, that’s not educated upon it to speak about something that they just don’t know about. If you feel passionate about it, you speak up on it. If not, don’t worry about it.“
Nail on the head right there. If YOU feel passionate about it, YOU speak up on it.
And that is what people in America are doing. Speaking up. We’re in an age where the normal person have several ways of speaking their mind. Making a difference. But no you’d rather take a selfie of yourself on Instagram with the “Willow” filter on top. Go about your business if you want. If you’re not passionate. Don’t worry about it. Simple.
