In his 11 year career in the NBA, Lebron James has never missed more than seven games in one season.
This season, the King has already missed nine games due to a lower back and knee injury that has kept the four-time MVP out for nearly two weeks. The Cavs have missed their star in the time frame too, as Cleveland in 1-8 when Lebron doesn’t play.
“It’s the most difficult thing I’ve been through,” James said. “I hated the fact that we were playing some decent ball when I went out and we just dropped a lot of games when I went out.”
The Cavs are currently 19-19 on the season and hold the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference after coming into this year with very high expectations. The team has dropped five-straight games and have a couple of tough games coming up this week against the Clippers, Bulls, and the Suns tonight.
After watching Ohio State defeat Oregon in the College Football National Championship last night, Lebron flew to Phoenix to meet up with his team where he is a game time decision tonight.
As for how James is feeling, he’s not 100%, but not hurting either.
“A little sore, a little tight, which I figured,” James said. “I haven’t done no basketball as far as live drills in two weeks, so my body is a little sore. But it’s not hurting, so that’s a positive.”
Cavs coach David Blatt, who might be on the hot seat, pulled Lebron out of drills in practice to help ease him back into things.
“Naturally, he hasn’t played for a while.” Blatt said. “Getting (him) out there and running up and down the court in a pretty intense fashion, that’s normal that he’ll feel it today.”
The Cavs are in Phoenix tonight with tipoff set for 9pm. Whether Lebron James plays or not, that’s still in question.
