During the 2011 NBA lockout, NBA superstars Kevin Durant and LeBron James recorded a song. The track, titled IT AINT EASY, produced by Franky Wahoo and Stewbillionaire, finally dropped on Friday. Here it is:
For a rap song created by NBA players, the song really isn’t awful. Neither Durant nor James is bad at rapping to the point of being cringeworthy, although neither one of them is a spectacular MC. Plus, the beat is pretty solid and the hook is catchy.
Durant’s performance was probably better than James’, though neither were overly impressive. The two probably shouldn’t pursue a secondary career in the music industry – leave the hip-hop to Damian Lillard.
A snippet of the original song was released in 2017. The acapella to that fragment was the same as the final product, but was to a different instrumental, which was reportedly produced by Durant.
According to Wahoo, the producer, the song was originally planned to be on the soundtrack for NBA 2K19 – which was also released Friday – but “never did” end up in the game.
Bovada released its MVP odds last month and gave James the best and Durant the fifth-best odds at the award.
