LeBron James has backed up Johnny ‘Billy’ Manziel ever since he turned pro. Manziel is a client of LeBron’s marketing firm and James has said many times that he will happily be Johnny’s mentor and guide him.
But whether LeBron has done that or not, Manziel continues to be a detriment to himself and his brand. The latest, getting clocked on while on a trip to Las Vegas, wearing a blonde wig and fake moustache, going under the name ‘Billy’. That’s just sad. It was funny hearing it for the first time, because it does sound like a Family Guy cutaway. But Manziel is once again trending down and LeBron has spoken on it. Sort of.
“I think it’s more concerned for him individually,” James said when asked if Manziel’s end to the season worried him more from a branding perspective — Manziel is a client of LRMR, James’ marketing firm — or from the human side of things.
“I’m not quite sure, I don’t know all the details on it. I’ve really kind of haven’t been all up on it but I’ve heard a little of it,” James said of the speculation surrounding Manziel’s whereabouts. “It’s just a distraction for not only himself, but for everyone that’s around him including family, people that represent him, the people that are around him. And he’ll figure it out at some point. We all hope.“
Has anybody noticed LeBron half answering important questions recently? I heard a clip of a reporter asking LeBron about Tamir Rice and how that transpired. LeBron went straight to default and answered something like “I’m not aware of all the facts so my opinion isn’t clear yet”. Why does he not know the details on these things? It’s not like he’s doing that social media blackout he does every Playoffs, surely you can read up on Tamir Rice in a night and marinate on it for a day. How can you not know the facts about Manziel? He’s a client of your firm, surely you know most of the facts?
