LeBron James, Chris Paul, and James Jones have been named in the Billy Hunter lawsuit against the NBPA, according to ESPN’s Ethan Strauss. The three have been served notices of deposition, meaning they will be required to answer questions under oath.
Paul is currently the President of the players’ union while James serves as its vice president. LeBron’s Cavs teammate James Jones is the union secretary treasurer.
Hunter is suing the NBPA over wrongful termination. He was fired from his position with the union in 2013. Hunter is seeking $10.5 million in the lawsuit.
Former union president Derek Fisher was also served earlier this year. According to Strauss, Hunter’s camp has insinuated that more NBA players will be served notices.
The court has also ordered the NBPA to turn over investigative documents. In a different report by Sports Business Daily, it was revealed that the NBPA has already been fined for failing to comply with that request.
A hearing is scheduled for November 3. This lawsuit has been brewing for a long time between Billy Hunter and the NBPA. It does not seem to be nearing a conclusion and it will likely suck in several NBA players in the middle of the season.
