Coming off one of the best games of his professional career, a 57-point decimation of the Wizards on the road, LeBron James recognizes one of his signature takeovers was necessary to help direct his struggling team back on track.
“I just did what I had to do to get us off this losing streak,” James said after the game. “I ain’t about losing. Y’all know me.”
James isn’t one to lose. If leading his team to nine NBA Finals trips for his career isn’t enough, James also accomplished a feat no other player has accomplished during his win against Washington: Becoming the youngest player to score 29,000 points in league history.
“I might be the youngest, but I don’t feel the youngest, even though I feel this is the best I’ve felt in my career right now,” James said. “I’ve just got to keep it going. Keep it going baby.”
For the Cavaliers, hearing James proclaim this is the best he’s felt during his professional career is a breath of fresh air, to say the least. James dealt with an ankle injury throughout most of the preseason, and is now in the midst of his 15th NBA season.
James has a legitimate chance at reaching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record of 38,387 points, provided he stays healthy. He’ll likely need at least five healthy seasons to pass the NBA Hall of Famer.
