Being childhood friends/former teammates with the best basketball player in the world has it perks, but it won’t guarantee you a spot on an NBA roster. So what do you do to put food on the table for your family? Romeo Travis has spent the last 8 seasons playing professional basketball overseas. No matter where in the world basketball takes him, the city of Akron (OH) will always be his home.
This is SHOOTIN’ THE SH*T | ROMEO TRAVIS, exclusive access before the release of DEPLOYED | ROMEO TRAVIS.
The title of the video saying that this training session is what brought LeBron James back to Cleveland, doesn’t have any factual standing behind it. There is no doubt though that LeBron working out with his former high school teammates probably brought back some reminiscent feelings to James about his time in Cleveland and how special it would be to return home.
Especially when your old high school names their gymnasium after you. It must be kind of awesome that if for some reason you find yourself looking to get up some shots on a summer afternoon, while you train for the upcoming season and return to your hometown team, the gym is all yours, and you can spend all day and night using it without having to wait for ‘next’. I imagine LeBron has 24/7 access and he might even have a key to the facility.
Although I doubt LeBron would have problem getting on any court in the world.
Last summer, as he went through the motion of announcing his return to the Cavaliers, he spent some time inside the ‘LeBron James Arena’ at his alma mater St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. James was getting shots up with his close friends Dru Joyce III and Romeo Travis. Travis currently plays overseas and is part of a new video series called ‘Deployed’ brought a camera crew along to document the shooting session between the old high school buddies.
The focus of the video isn’t on LeBron. In fact, LeBron doesn’t even say one word but it’s understandably hard not to watch him as he runs through drills, puts up some shots and prepares for the 2014-15 NBA season in his return home.
The clip from the ‘SHOOTIN’ THE SH*T’ featuring Romeo Travis has a little bit of nostalgic connotations, especially considering its been well over a decade since the three took that court for St. Vincent-St. Mary’s.
