Last week, we ran a story on how Lebron James broke royal protocol when he placed his arm around the Duchess of Cambridge after posing for a picture.
That caused much outrage as James apparently broke “royal protocol” by touching British royalty. Well according to Laura King, a senior communications officer for Buckingham Palace, Lebron James is cleared of any wrong doing.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge very much enjoyed their time in the US, including attending the NBA game and meeting LeBron,” King said. “When members of the Royal Family meet people they want them to feel as comfortable as possible. There is no such thing as Royal protocol.”
James was criticized by many, including journalist Piers Morgan.
“You do not put your arm around the future queen of England,” Morgan said. “LeBron James, you may call yourself King James, you are not a real king. Prince William is going to be my king, that was his wife. Hands off the duchess.”
Maybe just a handshake would have sufficed?
