Last month, HBO screened the controversial documentary, Leaving Neverland, for the first time. In front of a large crowd at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, the film earned a standing ovation. However, Michael Jackson’s estate did not feel the same way. Jackson’s estate stated, “The film takes uncorroborated allegations that supposedly happened 20 years ago and treats them as fact.” Nevertheless, HBO has elected to move forward with its highly anticipated documentary which is set to air later this year.
Today, HBO released the first official trailer for Leaving Neverland. In the trailer, Wade Robinson and Jimmy Safechuck give glimpses of their unfortunate encounters with the King of Pop. Opening the trailer, viewers hear, “Everyone wanted to be with Michael or be with Michael. Then, he likes you.” Towards the end of the trailer, we can hear the words, “I want to speak the truth as loudly as I had to speak the lie.” Overall, the trailer paints a grim account of Jackson and how he interacted with the children at his Neverland Ranch. With that being said, Jackson’s estate still vehemently denies that he committed any crimes involving the children at the Neverland Ranch.
The HBO documentary, Leaving Neverland, will air on HBO on March 3rd and 4th.
