For the album Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina, which will be accompanied by a Netflix documentary, Lauryn Hill revives Simone’s timeless ballad “Feeling Good.”
The film titled What Happened, Miss Simone? debuts on Netflix June 26. its follows the singers life from her classical training during childhood to magical run in the late-80s.
The film’s director Liz Garbus shared her thoughts on the outcome of the flick: “When we started making the film, the guiding principle was Nina. How much of Nina could we bring to an audience? Could we search the Earth for every scrap of audio, every note, every performance, every interview that she ever did? And the film is a result of that worldwide search. The idea was to let Nina tell her story as much as possible and [for] us to get out of the way.”
Hill had this to say about the cover song to Rolling Stone: “Because I fed on this music, both hers and lovers like her, like my basic food, I believed I always had a right to have a voice. Her example is clearly a form of sustenance to a generation needing to find theirs. What a gift.”
