More than 200 episodes and 23 Emmy Awards later, John Oliver and company are prepared to return to the small screen for the ninth season of Last Week Tonight on HBO. In a short trailer, the late night host told fans that they could expect to see him back on screen beginning February 20, 2022. Along the way, Oliver and his talented production team will continue to tell the world’s most important stories in a way that only they can.
Oliver’s upcoming run on HBO is his ninth with Last Week Tonight. In 2020, the network signed a deal to renew the show for three more seasons of 30 episodes each. The first season of the three-season deal concluded in November 2021. The upcoming season will likely come to a close in the fall of 2022. At this time, there is no word if the show will extend beyond its current deal. Given the show’s success, it would come as no surprise if the show goes beyond its current deal.
