Add legendary head coach Larry Brown to the list of people who aren’t fans of Kevin Durant’s move to Golden State. In a recent interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio, Brown gave his two cents on KD’s decision (transcribed by Michael Bohlin of 247 Sports):
“I’m not really excited about the fact that the best players are teaming up together,” said Brown. “I don’t think Michael (Jordan) would have done it or Larry Bird or Bill Russell or Magic. I don’t think those guys would have done it. I’m not real comfortable with the league going in that direction.”
Brown’s side of this argument has been stated time and time again: With the formation of “Super Teams,” the NBA has less competition when it comes to who will win the championship. The other side of the argument is:
- Kevin Durant is a grown man, and he has the right to do whatever the hell he wants. If joining Golden State is what makes him happy, and gives him the best chance to win, then he can join that team. He doesn’t care if you think he’s taking the easy way out.
- Watching Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green together on one team is going to be fun. This is the best assembly of talent in one starting lineup in NBA history. It’s historic.
Both sides have valid points, and fans are pretty evenly divided on the subject. At the end of the day, though, it doesn’t really matter what you or I think, or even what Larry Brown thinks. This was Kevin Durant’s decision, and he made it. That’s the end; the decision has been made.
