With the stagnation of Indiana’s play the past month and their recent 4 game losing streak, President of basketball ops for the Pacers Larry Bird had noticed this and with his championship pedigree it’s no surprise he expects top notch effort from his team. From what he told to the Indianapolis Star I don’t think they’re up to standard in his eyes…
A lot of times, we don’t take the fight to them (the opponent).
A lot of times we sit back and wait and see how it goes. And that was the case even when we were winning a lot of games early in the season. We’ve got to be mentally prepared to really go after the teams we’re playing again. We can’t have the mindset it’s just another game; it’s a very important game. All of them are.
When he says that you look back at their games and you’d thoroughly agree with the Boston legend, if you think off the top of your head, I bet you can’t think of a legit blowout win by the Pacers.
Sure they’ve won most of their games but not many of them by a large margin. If I’m an Indy fan I would be a little weary of that. Teams with lack of killer instinct do not win championships and Bird sees that.
But no need to hit the panic button.
