Langston Galloway, like many other young players, has big dreams of becoming one of the league’s best players down the road.
Galloway sat down with Basketball Insiders to talk about his aspirations and the upcoming season:
BI: When going against the best guards in the league like Curry and Westbrook, how do you get yourself locked in and ready to perform at your highest level?
Galloway: “I just have to go out there and show what I can do. I mean, I’ve got a lot to prove. I want to be one of those top guys one day and I gotta go out and prove it to each of the guys that I play against every night. Like, ‘Hey, I am trying to be at that level.’ That’s what I gotta go out there and do.”
He was inconsistent during his first two years in the league, playing with the New York Knicks. After averaging 11.8 points and 3.3 assists per game during his first year, his stats dropped, averaging just 7.6 points and 2.5 assists last season.
Sure, his reduced minutes may have something to do with it. However, his decline in FG% (40% to 39%), 3P% (35% to 34%), and FT% (81% to 75%) should be noted.
Still, Galloway is just 24 years of age, and has plenty of potential. The Pelicans are confident in what he can become, inking him to a two-year deal this offseason.
“It’s definitely like a homecoming”, Galloway, who’s from Louisiana, told Basketball Insiders. “I am definitely excited and just trying to help out anywhere that I can. I mean, I am glad to be a part of Coach [Alvin] Gentry’s team. I know they are all excited as well. I’m just trying to play hard and leave it all out there and whatever they need me to do, I am definitely prepared and ready to go.”
