Original Story Follows:
With the plethora of uber-talented teams markedly in the Western Conference, the San Antonio Spurs will have to do everything in their power to keep pace after the big-3 era. Along with a bonafide two-way superstar in Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs front office acquired a compliment to the wing in big man LaMarcus Aldridge two offseasons ago.
Though he hasn’t produced at the same level he did with the Portland Trail Blazers, Aldridge remains one of the premier frontcourt scorers and boasts a dangerous outside stroke. Apparently the Spurs like what they’ve seen out of their best big as the sides are already discussing a contract extension according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:

If no extension were to be agreed upon, Aldridge would be able to opt out next summer prior to the 2018-19 NBA season. Wojnarowski also pointed out that there would be certain incentives for the Spurs to ink Aldridge to his extension before midnight.
Aldridge can exercise opt-out for ’18-19, become free agent. A deal before midnight would allow him to opt-in at $22M and extend 3 years. https://t.co/xctuZktepW

A worthy contributor, this could be Aldridge’s last major payday of his NBA career with him already being on the wrong side of 30 years of age. Last year for the Spurs Aldridge posted per game averages of 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 72 appearances.
Expect an extension for Aldridge in the very near future and stay posted for further updates from Def Pen.
