The Golden State Warriors are currently 46-9 and on pace for a 68-14 season but the San Antonio Spurs are just 4 games behind them in the standings. The Warriors, however, have four players in the All-Star game while the Spurs have just one. LaMarcus Aldridge took exception with that fact according to The Vertical’s Michael Lee.
“I’m older, so I’m not going to come home and be mad or anything. But I do think that it was wrong for Golden State to have four [All-Stars] and we’re a few games behind and only have one. It is what it is. I’m in this position and I’m going to enjoy my break and just come back fresh.”
LaMarcus may have a case. The Spurs, nearly miraculously, have lost only 13 games and most would say they are doing it without much talent on the roster in comparison to teams like the Warriors or Cavaliers. Aldridge is a huge part of that success and his “drop off” isn’t nearly as severe as some may suggest. His numbers this season are fairly similar to his career averages while playing more than two fewer minutes.
LaMarcus Aldridge also currently has the 4th best defensive rating in his career and is allowing just 49.2% shooting when defending the rim. That number is better than supposed defensive stalwart’s; Hassan Whiteside, Nerlens Noel, and even Marc Gasol.
Aldridge plays a huge factor in the Spurs success and although his All-Star miss is understandable, so is his annoyance of its occurrence.
