By now there is enough reason to believe that LaMarcus Aldridge won’t be in Portland next season. He certainly has his options open as an unrestricted free agent. Aldridge is set to meet with the Spurs, Raptors, Mavericks, and has interest from the Rockets. The New York Knicks also have a meeting with Aldridge this week.
The latest wild card in the Aldridge sweepstakes is the Los Angeles Lakers, who reportedly moved up his wish list ahead of the Dallas Mavericks. The Spurs are believed to be a popular frontrunner, but now, Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times is hearing the Lakers are becoming more than just a possibility for Aldridge:
Heard that LaMarcus Aldridge was leaning toward Lakers, a sign that their brand is not only back but never went away despite appearances.
After drafting D’Angelo Russell and now having a promising young talent core with Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle, the Lakers do seem at least a bit more attractive from a basketball perspective. At 30 years old, Aldridge is certainly looking looking for a winning situation where he can serve as the focal point. The Lakers are set up to offer him that opportunity, plus the chance to play in a big time market that will emphasize his personal brand.
So why L.A. for LaMarcus Aldridge’s free agency visits? He has a Orange County home & his rep agency, Wasserman Media Group, is in Westwood.

Whether or not the Lakers are prepared to meet Aldridge’s long-term financial desires could play as a factor. The Lakers meet with DeAndre Jordan this week as well. Based on the information, there is enough incentive for Aldridge to be strongly considering signing with the Los Angeles Lakers at this point. Although, the week is just getting started.
